What are Dental Veneers?

Porcelain veneers are thin, custom-made shells that cover the front surface of your teeth to change their appearance and improve their function. They can be used to remedy minor cosmetic flaws such as chipped or broken teeth, uneven spacing between teeth, gaps between teeth, and crooked teeth to make the appearance of more natural teeth. If you have a tooth with an unsightly gap, porcelain veneers may be able to close it up and make your beautiful smile look even.

What type of veneers can I get?

As with most dental procedures, you can choose what you can get. The same goes with veneers which help disguise damaged or discolored teeth. Once our dental office receives a composite impression of your teeth, a dental laboratory will then create your veneers.

Once they’re created, you will have them fitted on the surface of teeth that are causing dental issues.

Composite Veneers

These are made from a unique material called resin bonded to your teeth’s outer surface. The composite material allows us to mask imperfections in your teeth while maintaining their strength. The process takes about two weeks and requires no anesthesia. Composite resin veneers are very popular.

Porcelain Laminate Veneers

This procedure uses a combination of materials, including enamel and porcelain, to give your teeth a new shine and luster. This is also known as laminate veneers because they are made by layering several layers of porcelain over the top of your existing damaged teeth. These veneers require some preparation work before we apply them. This is our number one choice for veneers.

Permanent Veneers

These veneers are designed to last for years and are usually recommended for patients who want to hide large chips or cracks in their teeth. Permanent veneers are made of ceramic and are cemented permanently onto your teeth. They are not removable like other types of veneers.

Temporary Veneers

Temporary veneers are only meant to be worn for short periods. They are typically used when you must show a big smile at a party or event. Temporary veneers are applied to your teeth without completing a complete restoration process. They are removed after a few days or weeks.

What Are the Differences Between Veneers and Dental Crowns?

Veneers are thinner than crowns and therefore don’t require much space. This means that they can be placed on smaller teeth and cover just the tooth surface. In addition, veneers are less expensive than crowns and are a cost-effective alternative.

Proper Care for Your Veneers

Your veneers should be brushed twice daily using a soft brush. You should avoid brushing too hard since this could cause damage to your veneer. Brushing your teeth with fluoride toothpaste is also important. Our dentist will recommend a specific toothpaste based on how well your veneers hold up.

If you notice any changes in the color or texture of your veneers, contact our dentist immediately. This may indicate that your veneers are coming loose.
