Does your smile have a gap in it due to a missing tooth, or maybe even multiple teeth? If so, it might be a source of embarrassment for you. We get that it can feel overwhelming to think about the steps it will take to makeover your smile, which is why we try to make it SO much easier for our patients. We don’t want you to have to feel ashamed of your smile, and we want to eliminate all of the hurdles between you and a smile you love.
Dental implants are one of our favorite restorative treatments. They’re very realistic and very reliable. In fact, the success rate of dental implants is around 98% at this point, which means once you have an implant placed, you likely won’t ever have to worry about it again!
We strongly encourage patients with missing teeth to consider implants as soon as possible. Leaving these gaps untreated for longer periods of time can cause issues like gum disease, tooth decay, and even jaw issues. Did you know that when you lose a tooth, your jaw bone starts to shift and deteriorate? Replacing your tooth with a dental implant is a surefire way to prevent these issues and get your old smile back.
What Are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are titanium posts that are surgically implanted in the jaw to support dental crowns, bridges, or dentures. We bring in an oral surgeon to place the implant, then we complete the process with a strong, natural-looking crown, bridge, or denture. Dental implants are totally secure, which means they won’t move or slip when you talk. You won’t notice any clicking, and your speech will be totally natural.
Implants are so successful because once they’re placed, they can last for decades. Other options may need to be replaced every 5-10 years or so. I mean, who wants to go through a dental procedure that often? Not to mention, you’ll save money by investing in a permanent solution like dental implants!
Dental Implant Aftercare
Of course, you should always be prioritizing your oral health, but especially after a procedure like this. We’ll give you comprehensive instructions for the healing period and beyond, but just know that almost everyone who has issues with their dental implant did so because they failed to properly care for it afterward.
Implants (and teeth in general) are unable to thrive in an environment that has an abundance of bacteria. Brush twice a day and floss at least once daily, preferably at night. You may not be able to brush that area in the first few days following your procedure, but as soon as you can, we want you to start carefully brushing it as well. Utilize ice packs (frozen peas work in a pinch!), saltwater rinses (a cup of hot water with a teaspoon of salt), and over-the-counter pain relievers are all good things to try.
Self Confidence Matters!
At the end of the day, we want you to have a smile you feel great about. Self-confidence really matters, and you deserve to love your smile. Maybe you feel like people are only seeing your missing tooth and not really seeing you.
When all is said and done, dental implants provide excellent long-term value and we think they are a fantastic investment in your oral health now and well into the future, and they’ll make you feel much more confident about your smile.
